Reading with your Child
Reading logs should be completed and checked daily. A comment from the child and a signature from the parent is needed to confirm that the reading has been completed. Children will have their library books and home reading books to use for this but please encourage children to read a broad range of texts at home. Staff will check that logs have been completed daily. If a child fails to complete their reading log twice in a week, a phone call home will be made by the teacher.
We will continue to use Talk for Writing in our English lessons. Talk for Writing is powerful because it enables children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic orally before reading and analysing it and then writing their own version. Each half term, children will have a core text which will link to their Topic unit. For each core text, a fiction and non-fiction piece of writing will be taught. To ensure that progression is clearly made through each year, the model texts, which are orally rehearsed by children, will be written by the English lead.
Bilingual learners are those who function in more than one language in daily life. The term 'bilingual' emphasises that learners already have one language and that English is a second or additional language.
At Ark Chamberlain staff will provide support beyond the learner's acquisition of social fluency to ensure meaningful access to the whole curriculum. This will enable a pupil's learning, achievement and social and personal development.
