Reading Week

Last week we focussed in the academy on celebrating our love of reading.  We started the week with an assembly, led by Mrs Baxter, on reading.  She talked about one of her favourite books, The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson-Burnett.  Thursday was World Book Day and we encouraged our pupils to come dressed as a character from one of their favourite books - the children didn't let us down and we had some fabulous outfits.  Miss Dempsey also led a special assembly on Thursday (whilst dressed as Alice in Wonderland!) to celebrate World Book Day.  A big thanks to all the parents that helped to put costumes together in support of their children.  Also, a huge thanks to the many staff that got into the spirit of things and also came in costume.  We will continue our celebration of the love of reading next week with a visit from the celebrate poet Dreadlock Alien on Tuesday.
