Ark Chamberlain Primary Academy is a fast-improving school with excellent CPD, teamwork and community at its heart.
Why work for us?
We are a five-form junior school in Small Heath, just three miles outside of Birmingham’s bustling city centre.
Our school boasts outstanding facilities, including a science lab with equipment more often seen in secondary schools and a fully-functioning sound recording studio, which students use to produce short radio shows.
A supportive school environment
We have a implemented a staff wellbeing policy, with an emphasis on rest and relaxation and leaving before 5pm on a Friday. Staff are expected and encouraged to get rest and ‘me time’ during half term and to not answer emails outside of work hours.
The wellbeing policy is supported by a focus on exemplary behaviour in the school, giving teachers more time to teach. The behaviour policy is clear, simple and on whiteboards in a visual format, ensuring that every pupil knows what’s expected of them – and that teachers can concentrate on teaching, not classroom management.
As well as each Ark Chamberlain teachers getting one afternoon per week for planning, preparation and assessment, every teacher in each year group gets together for PPA at the same time to plan together, have year group meetings, or general discussions about upcoming assemblies and trips – meaning that staff can collaborate and support one another.
We warmly encourage visits, please contact us to arrange to see our school.
Training and development
“CPD is one of the best things about Ark. It is incredible compared to normal primary schools. It’s a huge focus. A lot of our staff go on training. There’s NPQML for middle leaders and 3 of the Heads of Year are going on that.” - Katie Francome, Acting Deputy Head at Ark Chamberlain Primary Academy.
As part of Ark's network of schools, Ark Chamberlain staff benefit from training for their whole career. This includes weekly CPD sessions, a tailored CPD programme for each teacher, twice as many training days as standard, network-wide training days and conferences, and network opportunites (either to work with people from different schools, or even take a lead on developing subject training for the whole network).
“I have a couple of friends who are teachers, and I’d definitely recommend the school to them. There is a real focus on the community aspect of the school, and on teamwork.” – Fred Mitting, Head of Year 6
